Startup of the month – Stone & Compass

Continuing my search for interesting and unique startups in Bulgaria, I would like to share with you Stone & Compass.

Stone & Compass is an incredible cultural retreat and educational centre in Stolat, outside Apriltsi, Bulgaria.

In 2011 and 2012, Rob Goodwin had the great fortune to visit and work in Bulgaria. It was during this same time that he had been thinking of a new business idea that would incorporate he and his wife’s love of nature, education, travel, and culture. He knew he wanted his idea to be something that could bring together groups of people from all walks of life in a singular setting that would promote collaboration, a sense of peace, and above all a place of enjoyment. As he learned more and more about Bulgaria he fell head over heals in love with the place. The history, the people, the food, and above all the environment, were exactly what he was looking for.

Rob contacted me recently to tell me all about the place and how excited they are to be opening this year. Here’s what he had to say:

We have built a complete retreat that caters to everyone and helps preserve the traditional arts and crafts of Bulgaria. We have programs running beginning in June on everything from Yoga retreats to Archaeological lectures and everything in between. We are building programs with international Universities to bring students from around the world to our center to learn about each other. We are also offering public site seeing tours.

The cultural retreat and educational centre will have everything you could imagine including peaceful lodges, restaurants, yoga studios, organic farms and meeting rooms. The team are also working hard to get this centre recognised internationally and are talking to UNESCO and the UN to ensure that they have all the support they need.

We are very excited about visiting the centre later in the year and can’t wait to hear more news from Rob and the team on how things are going!

Make sure you show your support with a like on their Facebook page and visit their website to read more about their project.
