The first time I went shooting was a couple of years ago at the Red Gym in Sofia. The experience was amazing and ever since then I’ve been hooked. After several visits to Red Gym, I thought it was about time that I tried another shooting range in Sofia. I’d seen some people on Facebook recommending Shooting Range Gerena so I looked them up and gave them a call to book in for an hour last weekend.
My family were in Sofia visiting and, like me, my brother has also been a fan of shooting since trying it a while ago in Sofia. A group of us went along, and after being welcomed by a friendly security guard, we were asked to sign in and give our ID cards.
Next we chose our weapon. I opted for a small 22mm pistol as some of the group hadn’t used a gun before and we wanted to keep it simple! We put on our ear protectors and goggles and went through the big steel door to the very noisy shooting gallery!
Our instructor spoke great English and explained the safety information to us. She showed us the position that we should stand and how we should safely hold and fire the gun. After the safety talk we hung up our targets and one by one had a go at shooting them.
Now, I’m generally quite modest, but I have to say, I think I’m quite good at shooting a hand gun. The first round was a bit off as I haven’t been for a while, but by the second round I was very accurate and confident. I was, in fact, better than my brother, and I can say that here because I doubt he ever reads my articles anyway.
The cost at Shooting Range Gerena is so reasonable … you pay per bullet and for your targets. To give you an idea, there were four of us and we shot 20 bullets each and the total was just 22 leva! The bigger the bullets, the higher the cost, but they range from just 20 stotinki upwards which I think is great.
I highly recommend Gerena for anyone who wants to give shooting a try without spending a fortune. The staff were friendly whilst being very knowledgeable and the place is very cool. It would make a great team building event or something different to try when you have visitors in Sofia as I did.
I would suggest that you call in advance, particularly if you’re planning to go with a group – you can reach Shooting Range Gerena on +359 2 847 1967 or check their website for more information.
