Running 5km in Sofia for Charity

Last week Matthew from the UK contacted me as he was planning a trip to Sofia to take part in the 5km park run. The reason Matthew was flying all the way to Sofia for a 5km run was part of a fundraising campaign he’s set up. He’s running four 5km runs in four different cities in November to raise money for the Oddballs charity, raising money and awareness for testicular cancer.

Obviously happy to support Matthew with this fantastic idea, I helped him arrange his hotel and agreed to meet him at South Park on Saturday morning before the run. We chose the Park Inn Radisson as it’s a hotel that I’m always happy to recommend and it’s close to both the park and the centre of Sofia.

At 9:45am I met a very excited Matthew in South Park. He was saying how after only a few hours in Sofia he already felt like he was going to enjoy his stay! I introduced him to the organiser of the 5km run in Sofia and he very kindly allowed Matthew to talk to everyone there about what he was doing (with the help of a translator!). There were lots of smiles and cheers and at 10am we were ready to go at the start line.

Half an hour later we met again at the finish line. Happy and relieved to have another 5km race complete, we said our goodbyes and I wished him luck for the final race next weekend in Bratislava! You can read more about Matthew’s charity and support him here.
