Using the Metro in Sofia

 

The metro a great way to get around the centre of Sofia and to and from the airport. The journey time from Terminal 2 to the centre is around just 20 minutes. If you are travelling from Terminal 1 there is a regular bus connecting the terminals in around 5 minutes. The metro in Sofia is clean, modern and very efficient! It’s really easy to buy a single ticket from the ticket vending machines in the stations, or from one of the cashiers. Tickets are simply validated at the barrier when you enter and exit the station. You can also buy daily, weekly and monthly cards which offer great savings if you’re a regular user of the metro. Below is the current Sofia metro map showing all stations and detailed information about the tickets and prices. A new ‘Green’ line is currently under construction and due to open in 2019.

Single ticket price 1.60BGN 

•  Tickets can be bought at ticket machines at the entrances of the metro stations or at cashier’s desks.
• The ticket should be validated at the barriers at the entrance to the metro stations.
• The tickets are valid to travel in the metro within 30 minutes from the issue hour.

Card for 10 single trips 12.00BGN

• The usage of the electronic card is done using the validators located at the barriers at the entrance of the metro stations.
• At every usage of the card the number of remaining trips is decreased by one.
• The cards are issued for temporary use (without expiration) after paying a deposit of 1 BGN which is reimbursed if the user decides not to use it any longer.
• The card can be topped up at the cashier’s desks at the metro station.
• When defective (except mechanical damage) the card is replaced with a new one and the remaining balance is loaded to the newly issued one.
• When the card is returned at the cashier’s desk of Metropolitan EAD the sum of 1 BGN  is reimbursed by issuing a new single ticket.

One day card for all Sofia public transportation lines 4.00BGN

• The one-day card is valid for all the lines of the metro, trams, trolley-buses, buses of Sofia public transport.
• The cards can be purchased from the cashier’s desks at the metro station or Urban Mobility Centre (the company that operates the public transportation of Sofia).
• The card allows unlimited number of trips within the calendar day printed on it.

Three days card for all Sofia public transportation lines 10.00BGN

• The 3-day card is valid for all the lines of the metro, trams, trolley-buses, buses of Sofia public transport.
• The cards can be purchased from the cashier’s desks at the metro station or Urban Mobility Centre (the company that operates the public transportation of Sofia ).
• The card allows unlimited number of trips within 3 calendar days.
• One-time fee for the electronic card – 2.00 BGN

Monthly personalised card for metro 35.00BGN

• The card is valid for all metro lines (and not valid for other public transportation).
• The card is personalised with the photo and the name of the holder and can be used only by him/her.

Monthly non-personalised card for metro 42.00BGN

• The card is valid for all metro lines (and not valid for other public transportation).
• The card is without photo and name and can be used by different individuals (not simultaneously).

Monthly personalised card metro + (metro + 1 line of the terrestrial transportation) 43.00BGN

• The card is valid for all metro lines and 1 line of choice of the terrestrial transportation.
• The card is personalised with the photo and the name of the holder and can be used only by him/her.

Monthly personalised card for all lines of the public transportation 50.00BGN

• The card is valid for all lines of the metro, trams, trolley-buses and buses in Sofia.
• The card is personalised with the photo and the name of the holder and can be used only by him/her.

Monthly non-personalised card for all lines of the public transportation 60.00BGN

•  The card is valid for all lines of the metro, trams, trolley-buses and buses in Sofia.
• The card is without photo and name and can be used by different individuals (not simultaneously).
